Horse Barn Cost Calculator for Ocala, FL

Enter your stall count, construction type, arena and run-in sheds to see a rough low-to-high planning range. It is an estimate, not a quote.

This horse barn cost calculator gives you a rough low-to-high planning range for a barn, and optionally an arena and run-in sheds, in Ocala and Marion County. It uses no hidden pricing. Every rate below comes from the planning ranges already published on our horse barn cost guide for Ocala, FL, and the arena rates come from the same guide, which our riding arena construction guide expands on.

This is an estimate, not a quote. It multiplies broad planning ranges by the size and options you enter. Your real price depends on your plan, your site, Florida wind engineering and the builder. Use the result to check whether bids look reasonable, then request written quotes from independent local builders using the form on this page.

1. Barn size and construction

Left blank, we assume about 375 sq ft per stall once the aisle, tack room, wash area and feed space are shared out. That is the footprint assumption on our cost guide, so treat it as illustrative. If you have a plan, enter its total square footage instead.

Rates are for a finished, installed barn with stalls, basic electrical and water. The block range is our own assumption: the guide found no published horse barn pricing for block.

2. Riding arena

Common sizes in the guide are 60 by 120 ft (7,200 sq ft) and 100 by 200 ft (20,000 sq ft). Ignored when you choose no arena.

3. Extras

The guide cites about $3,000 to $8,000 each, which it describes as a single source's estimate.

Where the numbers come from

All rates are planning ranges from our Ocala horse barn cost guide. We added nothing from outside it. The guide itself says these are rounded planning assumptions drawn from the overlap of national cost guides, not published Ocala prices.

  • Steel barn: $50 to $100 per sq ft of whole building.
  • Wood (pole or post-frame) barn: $55 to $110 per sq ft.
  • Concrete block barn: $85 to $150 per sq ft. This is the guide's own assumption, not a published price.
  • Footprint from stalls: about 375 sq ft per stall, the guide's illustrative assumption (about 1,500 sq ft for 4 stalls, 3,000 for 8, 4,500 for 12). Entering your own square footage replaces it.
  • New open arena, ground up: roughly $4 to $10 per sq ft, the guide's planning range (about $29,000 to $72,000 for 60 by 120).
  • Resurfacing an existing arena: $0.65 to $1.50 per sq ft, from the two SuperMoney figures the guide cites (a basic refresh and a better one with sand and an additive). It only applies if the base and drainage are sound. Using the two figures as the low and high ends is our simplification.
  • Covered arena: $25 to $50 per sq ft for a clear-span steel cover, the BuildingsGuide figure on the guide (about $180,000 to $360,000 for 60 by 120). Other sources the guide cites run lower or higher, and the cover excludes footing and lighting. We chose this one figure because it is the one the guide multiplies out. That choice is ours.
  • Run-in sheds: about $3,000 to $8,000 each, a single source's estimate on the guide.

The calculator multiplies each rate by your size and adds the lines. It does not add a contingency, because the cost guide does not publish one.

What is deliberately priced at zero

The cost guide says it puts no numbers on the items below because they vary too much. The calculator adds nothing for them, so the result is low if you need any of them. Ask each builder whether they are included, in writing.

  • Living quarters. The guide notes the apartment portion costs more per sq ft than the stable area, but gives no figure, and our living quarters guide found no published pricing. Ask for the barn and apartment to be priced separately.
  • Fencing, paddocks and gates.
  • Septic, well and utility connections.
  • Driveway, parking and trailer turnaround.
  • Manure storage, drainage, clearing and grading.
  • Survey, soil work, engineered plans and permits. See the permits guide for Marion County.
  • Lightning protection, fire detection and sprinklers.
  • Arena footing and lighting on a covered arena.
  • Land, financing costs and interest. See the financing guide.

How to use the result

  1. Run it twice, once with optimistic choices and once with cautious ones, and see how far apart they are.
  2. Ask each builder to itemize shell, slab, stalls, electrical, water, site work, permits and engineering so you can compare line by line.
  3. If a bid is far below the low end, ask what it leaves out. If it is far above the high end, ask what is driving it.
  4. Read how to choose a horse barn builder before you sign anything, then use the form on this page to request quotes from independent local builders.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is this horse barn cost calculator?

It is a planning tool, not a quote. It multiplies the broad planning ranges published in our Ocala horse barn cost guide by the stalls and options you enter. Real prices depend on your plan, site, wind engineering and builder, so use the result to sanity-check bids, then get written quotes.

Why is the range so wide?

Because the published inputs are wide. The national cost guides we compared disagree by a factor of two or three, and finishes, layout and what a builder includes move a project a lot. A wide range is more honest than one number computed without seeing your plan and your land.

What does the estimate leave out?

Land, fencing and paddocks, septic, well and utility connections, driveway and parking, grading and drainage, survey, engineered plans, permits, lightning protection and fire systems, and any living quarters. Our cost guide gives no range for these, so the calculator adds none and says so in the result.

Can I use it for a horse barn with living quarters?

Only for the barn portion. We found no published pricing for barns with apartments, so the calculator adds nothing for the apartment. Ask builders to price the barn and the apartment separately.
